A new research carried out by a group of French scientists indicates that Energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) lights can deteriorate human vision by stimulating high levels of oxidative stress.
The effects of LED lights seem to be more damaging to our eyes in the night time and can increase the propensity of age-related eye sight problems, such as macular degeneration and blindness.
The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) has, therefore, issued a report that recommends that we limit our exposure to LED lights, especially at night. That includes reduce the time we spend watching TV on LED screen before bedtime.
Among several other recommendations found in the ANSES report, it’s important to highlight that children are more vulnerable to the negative effects of LEDs because of the transparency of the lenses in their eyes.
